FLYER & POSTER DESIGN INFORMATION
Chameleon Design recommend you use a reputable print house to do a digital print run for your Flyers and Posters.
Most print houses will have specifications that need to be adhered to by the designer, therefore this information has to be supplied at the same stage as The Brief.
The most common Print Specifications are as follows.
> Colours : Colours must be set to CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black) this is because these are the colours used in the printing process. The colours used to display your artwork on screen are made up of Red, Green and Blue (RGB) and it is not always possible to match the RGB colour range with CMYK. If you supply us RGB artwork Chameleon Design will convert it to CMYK but the colours may not be as you might expect!
> Image : Images need to have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi (dots per inch), if not the images may appear pixilated or unclear. Image resolution for the web only requires 72 dpi which can look perfectly acceptable on screen or when printed on a desk top printer but are not generally suitable for professional printing.
> Fonts: Chameleon Design will ensure that the font(s) used in the creation of your
artwork are embedded in the final deliverable (e.g PDF file) so that the fonts are replicated when printed. If the fonts are not embedded then the fonts can be substituted and may not match those used in your artwork!
> Bleed: Bleed refers to printing that goes beyond the edge of the media after trimming. The bleed is the part on the side of artwork that gives print houses a small amount of space to move around paper and design inconsistencies. If for example, you want the background of your flyer or poster to be entirely red, Chameleon Design must extend or bleed the background beyond the edge of the final size of your artwork. This also applies to images that you want to extend to the edge of your media. If we do not allow for bleed you may end up
with a fine white line down one or more edges of your print! Print houses normally require a minimum of 3.0mm bleed on each side of the artwork.
>Artwork Size & Trimming: The finished printing size is shown in the table below. When Chameleon Design creates your artwork we will include trim marks and increase the artwork size to include the trim marks and allow for 3.0mm for bleed.
Artwork Finished Size (After Trimming)
A6 Flyer/Poster 105mm x 148.5mm
A5 Flyer/Poster 148.5mm x 210mm
A4 Flyer/Poster 210mm x 297mm
A3 Flyer/Poster 297mm x 420mm
If you do not use a print house for your print run and instead opt to print the artwork yourself please bear in mind that you will not get the design right to the edge of your paper as your home/office printer has print margins that will leave an unprintable border visible around your artwork. You can either accept this or trim the paper to size yourself.
